Job Description

The National Cardio-Vet Network is hiring a Physician - Cardiologist to lead its Telecardiology wing as a TeleWing Team Lead. Based in Omaha, Nebraska, this role oversees capacity, scheduling, and productivity of a rapidly expanding telecardiology service.

The incumbent will provide face-to-face, virtual, and asynchronous care to patients across a wide region, and supervise cardiology advanced practice providers within the spoke network. This position is open to current, permanent federal employees of the Veterans Health Administration only.

The work area offers ad-hoc telework eligibility and a complete federal benefits package. The salary is $124,308 per year at grade VM 15. Key duties include diagnosing and treating coronary heart disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, and heart rhythm disorders.

The physician will perform complete histories and physical exams, electrocardiography, ambulatory rhythm monitoring (Holter, event, loop, implantable event recorders), and exercise testing. General knowledge of imaging techniques such as fluoroscopy, echocardiography, MRI, CT, nuclear imaging, and angiograms is expected.

The incumbent will see patients in outpatient clinics and hospitals for consultation and short/intermediate/long-term management.

Qualification

To qualify for this Physician - Cardiologist position at grade VM 15, you must meet basic requirements including U.S. Citizenship, a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school, a current full and unrestricted license, and completed residency training approved by the ACGME or AOA.

Preferred experience includes telehealth cardiology delivery and remote interpretation of echocardiograms.

  • U.S. Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an LCME-accredited medical school or COCA-approved osteopathic school. Foreign graduates must meet ECFMG eligibility.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
  • Residency training approved by ACGME or AOA, or alternative pathways: one year internship plus two years independent practice, or non-US residency plus three years verified independent practice in the US.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Preferred experience: telehealth cardiology delivery, providing consultation to cardiology advanced practice providers, and remote interpretation of echocardiograms and other cardiac imaging.
  • Applicants pending completion of training or license may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Currently employed VA physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet basic requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as team lead for the CARDIO-VET Telecardiology wing, overseeing capacity, scheduling, productivity, and efficient operations.
  • Complete medical diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, and heart rhythm disorders.
  • Perform complete histories and physical exams, electrocardiography, ambulatory rhythm monitoring (Holter, event, loop, implantable event recorders), and exercise testing.
  • Apply general knowledge of imaging techniques including fluoroscopy, echocardiography, MRI, CT, nuclear imaging, and angiograms.
  • See patients in outpatient clinics and hospitals for consultation and short/intermediate/long-term management.
  • Supervise care provided by cardiology advanced practice providers within the spoke network.
  • Provide face-to-face, virtual, and asynchronous care to patients across a wide region.
  • Participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as a condition of employment.
