The City of Tacoma is hiring a Senior Instructional Designer to join Tacoma Public Utilities. In this role, you will design, develop, and manage engaging in-person and virtual training programs that support employee growth, technology adoption, and exceptional customer service.

Your work will directly contribute to preparing employees with the knowledge and skills they need to serve the community with excellence. This position supports Customer Experience & External Affairs (CXEA), Tacoma Power, and Tacoma Water.

You will create sustainable learning solutions for onboarding, technology adoption, policy and procedure training, and ongoing employee development.

Qualification

Role Responsibilities

Design and develop engaging training programs for in-person and virtual delivery.

  • Create eLearning modules, videos, job aids, assessments, and facilitator guides.
  • Collaborate with divisions across Tacoma Public Utilities to identify training needs.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design proven methods.
  • Manage multiple training projects from needs analysis through evaluation.
  • Support onboarding, technology adoption, policy training, and employee development.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and make data-driven improvements.
  • Maintain and update existing training materials as needed.
