Senior Instructional Designer

To be considered for the Senior Instructional Designer position, you must meet the qualifications listed in the official announcement. The role requires expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and experience developing training materials for diverse audiences.

• Experience designing and developing instructional materials using adult learning theories.
• Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).
• Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and SCORM standards.
• Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
• Experience with video production and graphic design software is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field preferred.
• Certification in instructional design or related field (e.g., CPTD, ATD) is desirable.

Design and develop engaging training programs for in-person and virtual delivery.

• Create eLearning modules, videos, job aids, assessments, and facilitator guides.
• Collaborate with divisions across Tacoma Public Utilities to identify training needs.
• Apply adult learning principles and instructional design proven methods.
• Manage multiple training projects from needs analysis through evaluation.
• Support onboarding, technology adoption, policy training, and employee development.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and make data-driven improvements.
• Maintain and update existing training materials as needed.

This is a full-time position with the City of Tacoma.

Competitive salary range of $98,280
