The City of Norwalk is seeking a Social Services Superintendent to lead the daily operations of the Social Services Department.

This role manages staff, programs, and activities within the Social Services, Childcare, and Senior Center divisions, and supports the Director of Social Services in overall department administration.

As a single-incumbent class, the Superintendent serves as the Director's second-in-command, exercising lead direction over professional, supervisory, technical, and office staff during the Director's absence.

Qualification

Candidates must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in social work.. Public administration.. Or a related field.. And at least five years of progressively responsible experience in social services program management.. Including supervisory experience.

Role Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day activities, staff, and programs within the Social Services, Childcare, and Senior Center divisions.

  • Assist the Director of Social Services in overall department administration.
  • Exercise lead direction over professional, supervisory, technical, and office staff during the Director's absence.
  • Serve as a liaison between non-profits, local, county, state, and federal programs that work with the Social Services department.
  • Coordinate with Homeless Advocacy agencies, Los Angeles County programs, and Senior Center Programs.
  • Supervise Community Outreach Workers and other department staff.
  • Develop and implement program policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Monitor program budgets and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for city management and external partners.
  • Represent the department at community meetings and events.

  • Must maintain a valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • This position is designated as a disaster service worker and may be required to report for duty during emergencies.
