Job Description

The Food Service Worker position at Ellsworth Community Services Flight, part of the Air Force Global Strike Command, supports the Bandit Lanes on Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

This is a Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) role with a flexible, intermittent work schedule—no minimum guaranteed hours, but you may work up to 40 hours per week. The position is permanent and does not offer telework or remote work.

  • Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, and for cleaning equipment and work area.
  • Experience in responsible clerical or office work demonstrating ability to perform common arithmetic and make change when receiving payments from customers (if applicable).
  • Experience in receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, or other processing of cash items including direct handling and use of cash accountability control methods (if applicable).
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods.
Role Responsibilities

Set up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages.

  • Serve food cafeteria style.
  • Break down and clean area when meals are complete.
  • Set up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables, and replenish items as necessary.
  • Set up and operate dishwashers; perform preventive maintenance and cleaning.
  • Scrape, soak, scour, and scrub bowls, pots, and pans.
  • Perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings, exhaust hoods, under and behind kitchen equipment; wash floors and walls, walk-in refrigerators and freezers; sanitize garbage cans.
  • May unload food from delivery trucks.
  • Collect and transfer trash from work area to disposal area.
  • Assemble and toss fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings; serve into standard serving sizes.

Must complete a background investigation with favorable results.
