The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) Southeast District is seeking a registered nurse to provide school health services at Scott Middle School in Fort Knox, Kentucky.

This role is central to supporting student well-being and academic readiness by managing health needs during school hours.

As the school nurse, you will deliver classroom instruction on health topics, provide individual student health education and counseling, and respond to illnesses or injuries that occur during the school day.

Qualification

To qualify for this Nurse position, you must be a U.S. Citizen and meet the education and licensure requirements. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a current, unrestricted RN license are mandatory.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
  • License must be verifiable through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) nurse licensure and disciplinary database.
  • License must be maintained throughout employment with DoWEA.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a program other than nursing is acceptable only if you possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted RN license.
  • Nurses from Puerto Rico must show proof of passing the NCLEX.
  • Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a NACES member or equivalent.
  • Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).
Role Responsibilities

Provide classroom instruction and individual student health education and counseling.

  • Provide emergency care for illness or injury occurring during school hours according to standard first aid guidelines.
  • Maintain health information and documents for students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to interpret pupil health status.
  • Participate in the establishment, management, and evaluation of a complete school health program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support student health and safety.
Conditions & Requirements

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks due to interaction with children under 18.
  • This is a Testing Designated position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • You will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position is covered by the FEASR Pro bargaining unit.
  • This is a time-limited position and may be extended in one-year increments.
