About Veterans Health Administration
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, fulfilling President Lincoln's promise to care for those who have served in the nation's military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors. The VHA provides a wide range of health care services to eligible veterans, including mental health care, and operates medical centers, clinics, and other facilities across the country. It is one of the largest integrated health care systems in the United States, dedicated to delivering high-quality care and support to veterans.
As of August 2026, the Veterans Health Administration continues to expand its services and programs. Recent initiatives include a new program to help homeless veterans with emergency supplies and transportation, a clinical trial of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression, and a trial of GLP-1 treatment for alcohol use disorder. The VHA also announced significant pharmaceutical price reductions and is honoring Revolutionary War veterans in national cemeteries as part of America's 250th anniversary. These efforts reflect the VHA's ongoing commitment to improving veteran care and well-being.
